“Even though people may talk about HIV and AIDS like they are one in the same, they are not. HIV is the virus that can cause AIDS. Just because a person has acquired HIV does not mean they will progress into an AIDS status. AIDS is a syndrome of HIV and is acquired if a person currently living with HIV white blood cells fall below 200 or they acquire an opportunistic infection, like pneumonia or certain forms of cancer.”
