The mission of GUCDII is simple, “Teach One, Reach One and Pay it Forward.”

GIRL U CAN DO IT, INC. (“GUCDII”) was founded on July 20, 2005 by Andrea Johnson. What started out as a way to help a community of at-promised youths and young adults in the City of Philadelphia, became a beacon of opportunities for youths and young adults wanting to give back to their communities in helping to bring the school to prison pipeline to an end.

In 2007, Andrea Johnson learned that she had acquired HIV from her ex-husband.  Shortly thereafter, GIRL U CAN DO IT, INC.’s advocacy work in HIV and AIDS began.  The GIRL U CAN DO IT, INC. organization began to focus on various human rights issues that plague  African American communities in the fight to end HIV and HIV related stigmas globally.

As GIRL U CAN DO IT, INC. continued its advocacy work within the community, parents began to seek out the help of the organization to guide their at-promised youths and young adults. Hence, in 2008,  the GIRLS on the Go and the Young Women on the MOVE programs were created. These program were created to provide education on various life skills and health issues at an age appropriate level.

In 2009, with such a huge request made from men, GIRL U CAN DO IT, INC. shortened its name to GUCDII to form and develop a male group under the HomeBound Leadership Program that focused on helping at-promised boys and young men of color. Birth from this was GUCDII’s newest edition, Men of Today, Helping Men of Tomorrow.

Since our inception, GUCDII has been the recipient of many community, humanitarian, image, volunteer and recognitions awards.  GUCDII stands as an Inductee into the Philadelphia African American Museum and the Pennsylvania Black Caucus.  GUCDII has received global recognition for it’s Caring for Our Homeless Sister Initiative and our National Initiative: B'Cause I Care About U, Is Why U Should be Tested 4 HIV.

Presently, GUCDII’s main focus is our global advocacy work within the HIV/AIDS community.  We are a voice for those who are suffering in silence. We take a stand against domestic violence, human sex trafficking, homelessness and various human rights injustices.

Our goal is to educate, motivate and inspire.
